Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An overmantel mirror is a large-scale mirror traditionally designed to be hung or placed on the mantelpiece above a fireplace, often featuring rectangular proportions intended to reflect light and amplify the sense of space in a reception room.

These mirrors typically feature a foundational structure of pine or softwood, coated in gesso and water-gilded with gold leaf or finished with gilt composition ornament, housing mercury-silvered or early plate glass.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-applied gesso, subtle imperfections and foxing in the mirror plate, traditional joinery at the corners, and aged pine backing secured with period fixings.

It can be mounted above a modern fireplace or leaned against a wall in a living room or hallway to create an effective focal point that juxtaposes historical craftsmanship with clean, modern lines.

Clean the glass sparingly with a soft cloth and a neutral cleaner, avoiding any harsh chemicals on the gilded frame to protect the fragile gold leaf and historical patina.
