Edwardian mirrors often reflect a lighter, more refined aesthetic compared to heavy Victorian pieces, frequently drawing inspiration from 18th-century neoclassical and Louis XVI revivals.

Giltwood frames are typically constructed from carved timber, such as pine or gesso-coated hardwoods, finished with a fine layer of gold leaf applied over a bole base.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate joinery, oxidisation on the original mirror glass, and hand-applied gesso or gold leaf showing natural wear consistent with age.

Pairing an ornate gold frame with minimalist modern furnishings creates a striking focal point, adding warmth and historical contrast to neutral walls.

Dust the frame gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid chemical solvents or moisture, which can damage the delicate gold leaf and gesso layers.
