A trumeau mirror is a decorative architectural mirror designed to fit into the wall space between windows or above a fireplace, originating in 18th-century France during the neoclassical period.

These pieces are typically constructed from carved wood panels, featuring gesso ornamentation, hand-applied gilt leaf, and mercury glass or early float glass mirror plates.

Authentic pieces often exhibit signs of age such as foxing on the glass, hand-carved wooden details rather than modern resin casts, and traditional joinery on the reverse timber panels.

This piece can be mounted above a mantelpiece or utilized as a full-length statement wall mirror to add verticality and historical contrast to modern minimalist spaces.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and clean the glass sparingly with a non-ammonia solution, avoiding any moisture contact with the aged wooden frame and gilt surfaces.
