Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, evolving from vernacular woodworking traditions where spindles and legs were wedged directly into a solid wooden seat.

Authentic period pieces typically utilised a combination of woods, featuring elm or fruitwood for the sculpted seat, ash or oak for the bent parts, and pine or beech for the turned legs and spindles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-turned components, wedge-tenon joinery where spindles pierce the seat top, and natural wear patterns or patination consistent with age.

These pieces function effectively as sculptural accent objects, placed alongside contemporary furnishings to introduce texture, history, and organic warmth into a room.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically treating the wood with microcrystalline wax to nourish the historic finish.
