Eighteenth-century country chairs are characterised by local craftsmanship, utilitarian design, and regional variations using native timbers rather than imported exotic woods.

These chairs were typically constructed using native hardwoods such as elm, ash, and oak, frequently featuring solid timber seats and turned wooden stretchers.

Authenticity is assessed through hand-turned components, tool marks on solid wood seats, traditional joinery methods, and natural patination acquired over centuries of use.

They can be used as occasional seating or paired with a contemporary dining table to introduce organic texture, warmth, and historical contrast to minimalist spaces.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and occasionally feeding the wood with traditional beeswax to protect the finish.
