We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Overmantel mirrors gained prominence during the 18th and 19th centuries, specifically designed to be hung on the wall directly above a fireplace mantel to reflect candlelight and natural light around the room.

These mirrors typically feature a hand-carved wooden base overlaid with gesso, a plaster-like mixture, which is then intricately moulded and gilded with gold leaf or metallic paint.

Authentic pieces often display hand-applied gesso over timber, subtle shrinkage cracks in the surface, foxing or oxidisation on the original mercury or silvered glass plate, and traditional hand-cut joinery on the reverse.

Place it above a fireplace to anchor the room, or lean it against a bare wall to add architectural depth, combining it with minimalist contemporary furniture to create a striking contrast.

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid chemical cleaning agents, moisture, or direct sunlight, as these can damage the fragile gesso and flaking gold leaf.
