Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A tryptic cheval mirror is a freestanding full-length mirror featuring three hinged panels, allowing the side mirrors to be angled. Originating in the late 18th century, these mirrors gained significant popularity during the Regency and Edwardian periods for dressing and grooming.

These mirrors are traditionally constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, or walnut, often featuring delicate marquetry or string inlay. The frame typically pivots on brass trunnions or pins supported by a sturdy, weighted base with feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-beveled glass with minor age-related foxing, and old patination on the timber. Screws and fixings should be hand-turned or period-specific slotted brass, rather than modern Phillips head screws.

Position the mirror in a bedroom or dressing area to reflect natural light and create a sense of space. Its classic wood tones pair well with both contemporary minimalist schemes and traditional heritage decors.

Keep the wood conditioned using appropriate furniture wax and avoid placing the mirror in direct sunlight or areas of high humidity. Clean the glass gently with a soft cloth and non-ammonia cleaner, ensuring liquid does not seep behind the frame edges.
