Description

A stunning pair of Art Deco period satin birch armchairs. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1920-30’s.

They have a gorgeous design, and the quality is outstanding. The satin birch frames have beautiful grain patterns and lovely carving at the bases. They are very well sprung and comfortable, the whole build is very sturdy.

We have had the frames stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and they have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco furniture, emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic veneers, chrome, and high-gloss finishes.

These pieces typically feature a sturdy hardwood frame overlaid with highly figured wood veneers like satin birch, walnut, or mahogany, combined with traditional coiled spring upholstery and durable textiles.

Authentic pieces usually display period-appropriate joinery, genuine vintage textiles or appropriate replacement upholstery, authentic wear consistent with age, and distinctive veneer patterns characteristic of 1930s cabinetmaking.

They make a striking statement as accent seating in a living room or study, pairing well with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and metallic accents that echo the geometric glamour of the period.

Keep wooden furniture out of direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, maintain a stable room humidity to avoid cracking, and clean gently with a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
