Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Chippendale style originates from the mid-18th century, popularised by the London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale through his seminal design book, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Makers Director. It synthesised elements of Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese aesthetics into refined furniture.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods, predominantly Cuban or Honduras mahogany, chosen for its strength and ability to hold intricate carvings. Traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon was employed alongside hand-carved fretwork and stretchers.

Authentic items are evaluated through wood patina, tool marks left by hand-carving chisels, construction methods consistent with the period, and the quality of the timber grain. Period pieces often exhibit subtle asymmetries and oxidisation appropriate to their age.

Integrating period seating into a contemporary space creates visual tension; placing these chairs around a minimalist glass or clean-lined timber dining table allows the historic craftsmanship to stand out as a focal point.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels between 40-50% and avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber cracking and fading. Cleaning should be limited to dusting with a soft, dry cloth without silicone-based polishes.
