An exceptional 18th Century Gothic Chippendale Armchair of large proportions and great colour made from the finest heavy weight, solid Mahogany of the period. The top rail carved with Acanthus leaf and scrolls adjoining the beautifully carved splat shaped with Gothic motifs fitting into the shoe which is hollow moulded and finely carved with gadrooning. The back legs fluted, reeded and delicately carved with beed and reel. The arms are wonderfully shaped finishing with scrolled tips, the uprights are fluted and reeded flowing seamlessly into a scroll to the front edge with a C scroll behind. The legs also having carved fluting from top to bottom. A real Masterpiece from the pinnacle of the English Chair making tradition, possibly by Wright and Elwick who supplied Furniture to some of the finest houses of the period including Chatsworth and Harewood House.
