Description

A fantastic antique Swedish leather club armchair, recently imported from Sweden and dating from around 1900-1920.

It is of superb quality, it is well sprung and very comfortable. The green leather is original & has a gorgeous colour tone, this has a buttoned back and sits on beautifully splayed solid birch legs.

We have had the leather revived and hand coloured by our leather restorer, there was also a small perforation on the seat that has been patched from inside and repaired. This is in lovely overall condition for its age with a great patina.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The club armchair originated in France during the early twentieth century, known as a fauteuil confort, designed for deep seating comfort and upholstered traditionally in leather.

Authentic period club chairs typically feature robust hardwood frames, coiled spring suspension, horsehair or wool stuffing, and high-grade bovine leather upholstery.

Authenticity is determined by examining the frame construction, traditional hand-tied springs, natural leather patina, wear patterns, and traditional upholstery tacking methods.

Pair this piece with clean-lined modern architectural elements, minimalist lighting, and neutral textiles to balance the heavy visual weight and rich texture of the leather.

Maintain antique leather by applying professional leather feed or saddle soap periodically to prevent drying and cracking, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
