The Chippendale style, originating from the designs of Thomas Chippendale during the Georgian era, is characterised by intricate carving, graceful lines, and an incorporation of Rococo, Gothic, and Chinese influences.

Giltwood furniture was typically constructed from hardwoods such as pine or beech, which were then meticulously coated with layers of gesso and bole before applying ultra-thin sheets of gold leaf.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon, and age-related wear including the oxidation of the underlying gesso beneath the gold leaf.

Pairing an ornate historical chair with minimalist modern furnishings creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece without overwhelming the space.

Giltwood should be dusted gently with a soft, dry ostrich feather duster and kept away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent the delicate gold leaf from flaking or tarnishing.
