Victorian club chairs emerged during the 19th century, characterised by deep seats, generous padding, and low profiles designed for maximum comfort in drawing rooms and libraries.

These chairs typically feature solid hardwood frames made from walnut or mahogany, supported by complex hand-tied coil spring systems, horsehair stuffing, and heavy calico or textile upholstery.

Authenticity is determined by traditional joinery methods, hand-carved wooden legs often fitted with brass castors, hand-stitched webbing, and makers stamps or paper labels where applicable.

Pairing a traditional lounge chair with contemporary fabrics or placing it in a minimalist setting creates a sophisticated contrast that highlights its classic architectural silhouette.

Maintain the wood with appropriate micro-crystalline wax, protect textiles from direct sunlight, and consult professional conservators for traditional re-upholstery using period-accurate techniques.
