Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen refers to small, hand-carved wooden functional objects crafted before the widespread adoption of metal or synthetics. Shoe-shaped snuff boxes were popular novelty items during the 18th and early 19th centuries, designed to hold powdered tobacco for personal use.

These objects were typically hand-carved from dense, close-grained hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, walnut, or oak. Construction often features a sliding flush lid, precise friction-fit joinery, and incised carving detail depicting shoe seams, laces, or soles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit smooth, naturally aged timber patination and surface wear consistent with handling over centuries. Look for hand-cut interior tool marks, period-accurate footwear proportions, and minor timber shrinkage or subtle asymmetry typical of hand-carved items.

Small treen items function as subtle accent objects when placed on a desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf alongside leather-bound books and contemporary ceramics. Grouping several treen pieces or folk art curios together on a decorative tray creates a textured display in a study or library.

Dust the item gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent timber splitting. Applying a high-quality natural beeswax polish sparingly once a year will nourish the wood and protect its original patina.
