Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge ware is a form of decorative inlaid woodwork manufactured primarily in and around Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England, during the 18th and 19th centuries. It features intricate mosaic patterns created from small strips or veneers of differently coloured woods assembled to form geometric designs or pictorial scenes.

Craftsmen utilised various natural woods including native species like holly, sycamore, boxwood, walnut, and cherry, alongside imported exotic woods such as rosewood and ebony. The distinct geometric tessellations were constructed by gluing thin wooden rods together into blocks before slicing them horizontally into veneer sheets.

Authentic pieces display distinct wooden mosaic tessellations showing end-grain or side-grain timber patterns rather than painted or printed designs. Key indicators include precise joinery, original brass hardware, natural colour variation from wood oxidation, and gentle wear consistent with age along handling edges.

A decorative wooden box can be placed atop a sideboard, desk, or stack of art books on a coffee table to introduce texture and historic craftsmanship. It functions both as an accent piece and as practical storage for small items like jewellery, stationery, or keys.

Keep the box away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and high humidity to prevent the thin timber veneers from drying out or lifting. Clean gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber.
