Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian Sheraton Revival display cabinet in dark brown mahogany and satinwood combines a glazed upper section with a lower bureau-style base, standing 200 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. The piece has a shaped, well-inlaid pediment surmounting a decorative frieze, paired glass doors enclosing multiple shelves, and a base containing four small drawers flanking a central drawer decorated with a figural marquetry panel depicting lovers in a landscape. Slender tapered legs support the structure, which is finished with brass drop handles. Ideal for an English country house or traditional interior, the cabinet serves as a functional display and storage unit for a living room, dining room, or hallway. The glass-fronted shelves accommodate china, books, or decorative objects, while the lower drawers provide enclosed storage for smaller items. The combination of glazed doors and marquetry detail brings a formal, decorative presence suitable for daily use in a period or classical home setting.

FAQs

Popularised in the early 20th century, Sheraton Revival furniture drew inspiration from late 18th-century Neo-Classical designs. Characteristics include slim proportions, satinwood crossbanding, intricate floral marquetry, and slender tapered legs.

Cabinetmakers typically utilised solid mahogany or oak for the carcass, veneered with rich mahogany and decorated with contrasting inlays such as satinwood and boxwood. Cast brass hardware and glass panels complete the original construction.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joinery on internal drawers, minor imperfections in original glass panels, natural wood shrinkage along frame seams, and age-related oxidisation on drawer runners and brass handles.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall to highlight the timber tone and inlay work. Curate the interior shelves with modern ceramics, framed prints, or monochrome glassware to create a balanced contrast between period and modern elements.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Keep the cabinet positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid veneer lifting and timber discolouration.
