This important 19th-century china cabinet comes from the Art Nouveau period and is made from dark brown mahogany, glass, wood inlay, and brass. The Victorian and Gothic-influenced design features a curved glass door with a brass handle, botanical marquetry inlays in the panels, slender turned pillars, and a sweeping apron. Pratts of Bradford made the cabinet around 1895. It measures 197 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. Pratts of Bradford stamped the maker's name on the cabinet. The upper display section has curved glass panels and an arched pediment, whilst the open lower section provides display space flanked by turned pillars. The wood displays a rich dark brown polish and the marquetry incorporates contrasting lighter tones in the botanical motifs. This display cabinet works well in a dining room, living room, or hallway to display ceramics and glassware.
