The octagonal hinged lid has a central medallion of two putti in clouds and the side panels are decorated with ribbon tied drapes interspersed with floral swags over a border of berried laurel leaves. The interior is fitted with its original velvet lining.
The gilding to the high points is rubbed, particularly to parts of the lid and the velvet lining is worn consistent with age including a number of pin holes to the upper part. There is some tarnishing to the inner rims and the key, whilst operable, is a little sticky.
