Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood furniture production was pioneered by Michael Thonet in the 19th century, utilising steam to bend solid wood into curved, graceful shapes. This innovative technique revolutionised manufacturing, creating lightweight, durable, and aesthetically refined pieces that became immensely popular across European cafes and homes.

These chairs are traditionally constructed using solid beechwood, which is subjected to steam heat to make it pliable enough to bend into continuous loops for backs and frames. Seats often feature pressed plywood with decorative embossed patterns or woven cane panels, assembled using minimal hardware and strong internal joints.

Authentic pieces can be identified by the presence of makers stamps or paper labels underneath the seat, traditional flat-head screws, hand-formed steam bends with natural grain deflection, and authentic age-related patina on the wood surface.

This piece can be styled as a standalone decorative object in a living room, placed in a nursery for a touch of historical charm, or used on a landing to add warmth and architectural interest through its curved wooden lines.

Preserve the wood by keeping the item away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, which can cause the steam-bent sections to warp or split. Clean gently with a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes and excess moisture.
