This mid Victorian Windsor armchair dates from around 1860 and originates from the East Riding of Yorkshire. The piece combines a steam bent hooped toprail and elbow with a pierced central splat, set above a shaped wooden seat and supported by turned legs united by a crinoline stretcher. Constructed from yew wood and elm, the chair displays a warm brown timber colour with visible natural grain variations throughout, slender vertical spindle supports along the back, and turned end supports on the arms. The makers mark J Spencer is stamped to both sides of the seat. The chair measures 103 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 39 cm deep.
