Circa 1870, exhibition quality set of 4 carved mahogany armchairs. With shaped, foliate carved back and raised top rail, with intertwined carved S- and C-scrolls and fluting to padded arms, supported on shaped uprights. The back, arms and seat all recently re-upholstered and finished in calico, with a mixture of gimp and brass studs, over shaped and carved mahogany front rails. On square, slightly outswept back legs and elegant cabriole front legs with carving, reeding and fluted over a curled toe with original brass castors.
