Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall chairs originated in 18th and 19th-century country houses and townhouses to provide seating in entry halls for waiting visitors or messengers. They were purposely constructed from solid wood without upholstery so that wet outdoor coats and garments would not damage fabric.

Victorian hall chairs were typically crafted from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak using traditional joinery, including mortise and tenon joints. The backs were often heavily carved from a solid timber panel, attached to solid wooden seats and shaped or turned legs.

Authentic 19th-century examples display signs of hand-carving irregularities, genuine timber oxidisation, and hand-cut joinery underneath the seat rail. Additionally, many original pieces featured family crests or decorative cartouches hand-carved directly into the central back panel.

A pair of hall chairs works well placed symmetrically on either side of a console table in a foyer, within a wide hallway, or situated on a spacious stair landing to create architectural structure.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent the solid wood panels from splitting.
