This set of seven Regency dining chairs dates from around 1800 and is constructed from warm brown mahogany with brass inlay. Each piece exhibits a tablet top rail, a carved mid-rail, and turned front legs, complemented by sound patterned fabric upholstery in a gold-toned geometric motif. The wood displays a rich dark brown polish with slight surface wear commensurate with age and use, and the seating configuration comprises one foreground chair arranged with six matching chairs behind it. These chairs function as a dining set for a formal dining room or a spacious kitchen today, offering traditional seating around a central table. Each chair measures 53 cm wide, 53 cm deep, and 83 cm high, providing comfortable proportions for daily meals or hosting guests. The sturdy timber construction and sound upholstery ensure practical utility while maintaining a grand period aesthetic within a home.

FAQs

Regency dining chairs, originating in early 19th-century Britain, feature Classical Greco-Roman proportions, swept sabre or turned legs, tablet top rails, and decorative brass inlays.

Craftsmen primarily constructed these chairs using solid mahogany or rosewood, frequently incorporating brass cut stringing, carved timber splats, and upholstered drop-in seats.

Authentic Regency chairs display hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, crisp hand-carved motifs, genuine brass inlays flush with the wood surface, and natural patination on the mahogany timber.

Regency dining chairs can be paired with a sleek contemporary table to create architectural contrast or placed alongside neutral decor to accentuate their warm timber tone and decorative brass accents.

Dust mahogany frames regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the timber grain, avoiding harsh chemical sprays near the brass inlay.
