Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE VICTORIAN ERA:
Hand-cut drawer dovetails with visible saw marks: traditional bench joinery.
Dark speckling across the mirror plate: age to the reflective backing.
Solid timber backboard held with cut brads: nineteenth-century mirror framing.
Figured walnut veneers over solid groundwork: late Victorian Queen Anne revival.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also referred to as a toilet glass, is a small free-standing mirror designed to sit on a dressing table or chest of drawers. Popularised in the late 17th and 18th centuries, these pieces typically feature a swivelling mirror suspended between upright supports above a base containing drawers.

Georgian toilet mirrors were predominantly constructed from fine hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany, often decorated with figured veneers and crossbanding. The mirror plates from this era were made using mercury amalgams, held within hand-moulded timber frames.

Authentic 18th-century toilet glasses frequently display hand-cut dovetail joinery in the base drawers, hand-cast brass hardware, and original mercury-silvered glass exhibiting mild desilverisation. The undersides and backboards of genuine period examples usually retain historic hand-planing marks.

Position a wooden toilet mirror atop a clean-lined sideboard or modern bedroom dresser to establish a focal point. Balance the warm timber tones by styling the surface with neutral ceramic trinket dishes, a linen table runner, and subtle brass accents.

Dust the wooden framework regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax paste twice per year along the grain. Avoid using liquid glass cleaners directly on the mirror surface to protect the silvered backing foil from moisture damage.
