Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Cabinets from the late 19th and early 20th centuries often blend traditional Victorian proportions with organic, fluid decorative details. Typical features include stylized botanical motifs, bevelled glass mirrors, polished mahogany veneers, and ornate cast brass or bronzed mounts.

High-grade mahogany, walnut, or rosewood formed the primary structural timber, often accented with gilt-brass or bronzed ormolu mounts. Display panels utilized hand-blown or early float glass, while mirror backs incorporated silvered or mercury glass.

Authentic period cabinets display hand-cut dovetail joints, original slotted screws, and age-consistent oxidisation on metal fittings. Natural foxing or slight imperfections on original mirror panels and hand-carved decorative elements also indicate historical authenticity.

A substantial antique cabinet functions effectively as a focal point in a formal dining space, hallway, or living area. Combining dark timber finishes with neutral wall palettes and minimalist ceramic or glass displays inside balances historical ornament with modern aesthetics.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly to preserve the grain finish. Avoid positioning the cabinet near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and glass damage.
