Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This 19th-century Aesthetic Movement slipper chair dates from around 1890 and follows the style of the Victorian and Gothic periods. The piece is constructed from ebonised wood with a black finish, accented by gilt ormolu mounts, and stands on turned front legs fitted with castors. The curved spoon back and low seat are traditionally upholstered in a cream textile patterned with green botanical motifs and figural designs, bordered with piped trim. The wooden frame is free from breaks with tight joints, and all ormolu mounts remain intact. Measuring 86 cm high, 48 cm wide and 75 cm deep, the chair functions well as a comfortable seat in a bedroom, dressing room or intimate reading corner.

Originating in the late 19th century, an Aesthetic Movement slipper chair is a low-seated, armless chair designed primarily for dressing rooms or bedrooms, characterised by dark ebonised frames, classical ormolu mounts, and decorative textile upholstery.

Frames were typically constructed from hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or mahogany, often ebonised or polished, embellished with gilt bronze or brass ormolu fittings, and upholstered in patterned woven fabrics or velvets.

Authentic pieces feature traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned front legs on castors, genuine cast ormolu or brass trim along the frame edges, and characteristic low proportions without armrests.

Position the chair in a bedroom corner, dressing area, or quiet nook to introduce historical contrast, pairing it with neutral floor finishes and minimalist lighting to highlight its detailed silhouette.

Dust the ebonised wood gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the piece in direct sunlight or humid environments, clean metal mounts with a soft dry brush, and vacuum the textile fabric using a delicate brush attachment.
