These 19th-century Italian Rococo throne armchairs comprise a pair of large seating items constructed from wood with a giltwood finish in gold. The frames showcase carved acanthus leaves and scroll arms, set upon cabriole legs with rocaille cresting at the top of the arched backs. The upholstery consists of sculptured velvet in a classic Italian stripe pattern combining grey and gold tones. One seat exhibits minor wear, while the giltwood surfaces remain in very good condition with minimal wear and no structural wobbles. Practical proportions include a 114 cm height at the back, a 66 cm width at the front, and a 46 cm seat height. Such substantial armchairs suit a living room, drawing room, or reception space as statement seating pieces. They provide comfortable seating while adding decorative antique character to traditional or eclectic interior schemes. Positioning them together creates a balanced focal point in a seating arrangement.

Italian Rococo furniture, prominent during the 18th century, is characterised by elaborate hand carving, sweeping curved lines, giltwood finishes, and ornate shell and leaf motifs.

These chairs are typically framed in carved softwoods or hardwoods, coated with gesso, and finished using gold leaf gilding techniques over a bole ground base.

Authentic pieces feature traditional carved joinery, natural wear showing the red or yellow clay bole beneath the gilding, and historic upholstery construction techniques.

A pair of carved giltwood armchairs can be styled as focal architectural accent pieces in modern living rooms, placed alongside neutral walls and minimalist modern side tables.

Dust giltwood frames gently using a dry, soft microfiber cloth or feather duster, avoiding moisture, solvents, or liquids that can loosen the gesso layer and gold leaf.
