Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A set of six French Renaissance Revival dining chairs in dark brown oak dates to the nineteenth century, around 1860. Each chair features woven cane seat panels and vertical back panels, foliate cresting to the top rail, barley twist columns flanking the back, and turned stretchers joining the legs. The timber displays a rich dark brown finish, accented by intricate floral and leaf carvings along the crest rails and vertical stiles, alongside bobbin turning on the lower H-stretchers. Measuring 106 cm high, 47 cm wide, and 44 cm deep with a seat height of 46 cm, these chairs provide a sturdy seating arrangement around a formal dining table in a dining room or drawing room today.

FAQs

French dining chairs in the Henri II style originated in late 19th-century France, drawing architectural and decorative inspiration from 16th-century Renaissance design movements.

These chairs are constructed using solid oak timber, incorporating turned stretchers, relief-carved crestings, and natural woven cane or rattan back and seat panels.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, hand-carved relief decorations showing minor tool variations, and original dark patina across the oak grain.

Designers position carved oak dining chairs alongside minimalist dining tables or as accent seating in entryways to create stylistic contrast between historic textures and modern architecture.

Dust the timber with a soft brush, apply beeswax to protect the oak finish, and periodically hydrate the underside of the cane panels with a damp cloth to maintain flexibility.
