Description

An elegant, matched pair of late Victorian / Edwardian Sheraton Revival polychrome painted elbow chairs, dating to around 1900.

Crafted with hardwood frames, each chair features a top rail decorated with hand-painted floral garlands and ribbon swags above a central panel with a rich burr wood oval reserve. The open back frame displays delicate trellis lattice work detailed with floral bosses.

The sweeping armrests lead down to ring-turned, faux-bamboo style front legs, richly decorated with painted floral trail decoration. Both chairs retain original hand-woven cane seats set within sweeping curved front seat rails.

A decorative pair of antique armchairs, ideal for a hallway, bedroom, or as accent seating in a period or country house interior.

In good antique condition throughout. Minor age-related wear, light rubbing, and a soft, natural patina to the painted decoration as expected with age. Traditional hand-laced cane seats remain intact, taut, and stable. Joints are solid and structurally sound. The included loose cushions show some light surface marking/staining consistent with use, but are clean and usable as is, or easily recovered.
