Brief Description:
Each chair features an elegant carved giltwood frame with a shaped and richly ornamented crest rail, scrolling open arms and finely carved foliate detailing. The frames are further embellished with beaded and twisted moulded borders, carved floral corner blocks, and slender, fluted, tapering legs.
The chairs are generously upholstered in an attractive champagne-gold damask fabric, with deeply buttoned backs and broad upholstered seats. Traditional decorative upholstery studs follow the contours of the frames and complement the aged gilding particularly well.
One of the most appealing aspects of this pair is the wonderfully naturally distressed surface of the giltwood, displaying rubbing, wear, darkened recesses, and areas of exposed underlying decoration accumulated through age and use. Rather than detracting, this gives the chairs tremendous character and an authentic country-house appearance.
Substantial, imposing and extremely decorative, these would make superb statement chairs positioned together in a drawing room, library, hallway or either side of a fireplace.

The chairs are presented in good antique condition with a particularly attractive time-worn appearance.
As clearly illustrated in the photographs, the giltwood frames display numerous areas of age-related rubbing, scuffing, small losses and wear to the gilded/painted surface, together with marks and imperfections consistent with their considerable age and use. There is more pronounced surface wear to areas of the reverse of the frames.
The upholstery remains highly presentable overall, although there are some minor marks, pulls and general signs of previous use. The upholstery studs have naturally mellowed and darkened with age.
