Originating in early 19th-century Britain during the Regency era, these mirrors feature classical neoclassical influence, rectangular or convex profiles, and gilded timber frames. They reflect the periods preference for clean symmetrical mouldings combined with water-gilded gold leaf finishes.

Frames were typically constructed from pine or lime wood, shaped with hand-carved details or composition ornament. They were coated in gesso and clay bole before receiving thin gold leaf sheets, housing hand-blown flat glass plates often finished with bevelled edges.

Authentic pieces exhibit red or yellow clay bole showing through areas of worn gold leaf gilding, known as rub-through. Further indicators include hand-planed timber backboards, square-headed iron nails, and natural foxing or oxidisation within the mirror plate.
