This pair of Georgian style bedside tables dates from 1910 and belongs to the English Country House design vibe. Each table has a figured mahogany bow-fronted top in a warm brown timber colour, above two drawers with cockbeaded drawer fronts. The hardware consists of round brass knob handles, and the base rests on tall square tapered legs. The tables measure 71.8 cm high, 48.2 cm wide, and 38.1 cm deep, standing at 71.8 cm high in practical terms. These pieces suit placement beside a bed in a principal bedroom or guest room to hold a reading lamp, books, and nighttime essentials. The two-drawer configuration provides useful bedside storage for smaller items while keeping the bedroom surface tidy and uncluttered. Their slim proportions allow them to fit comfortably into compact spaces alongside various bed frames.

FAQs

Bedside tables from the Georgian and Regency periods are characteristically understated, emphasizing clean geometric lines, highly polished mahogany timber, slim square tapered or turned legs, and brass hardware.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcasses, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, cockbeaded drawer edges, and cast brass knobs or handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetails inside the drawers, secondary timbers like pine or oak for interior linings, natural wear along drawer runners, and original patina on timber and brass fittings.

Position them symmetrically alongside a upholstered or wooden bed frame, topped with contemporary ceramic or glass table lamps to create a balanced contrast between traditional craft and modern design.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to avoid warping or drying.
