This pair of early 19th-century Georgian-style bedside tables brings classic English country house character to the bedroom. Constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish, the pieces showcase striking flame mahogany veneer across their surfaces. Each cabinet is designed with a rectangular top above four graduated drawers, fitted with dark turned wooden knobs and escutcheons, and stands upon shaped bracket feet. The timber displays rich natural grain patterns and a polished lustre developed through age. Each table measures 83 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. In a contemporary home, these bedside chests serve practical roles on either side of a bed for storing nighttime essentials while introducing traditional cabinet-making craftsmanship to the sleeping quarters.

Traditional English bedside chests evolved from small lamp tables and chests of drawers during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to provide accessible bedroom storage. They typically feature vertical drawer arrangements, timber construction, and classic leg profiles such as bracket or cabriole feet.

Authentic pieces frequently showcase solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood. Construction hallmarks include dovetail drawer joints, turned wooden or brass hardware, and polished timber tops.

Authentic pieces often show natural timber shrinkage, hand-cut drawer linings, original locks, and genuine wear around the handles. Modern reproductions tend to feature uniform machine-cut dovetails, modern screws, and synthetic drawer bottoms.

Position one chest on either side of a bed to create visual symmetry in a principal bedroom. Pair them with contemporary table lamps and crisp linen bedding to balance traditional woodwork with modern textures.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and avoid placing timber near direct heat sources or damp walls. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the finish and nourish the wood.
