Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian pair of bedside chests comprises two matching pieces made from mahogany with warm brown flame mahogany veneers. Each chest has a solid top with a moulded edge above four graduated drawers, fitted with small brass turned knob handles, brass escutcheons, and working locks with keys, set upon a plinth base. The wood displays a wonderful patina across its figured surface. Each chest measures 72.5 cm high, 40.5 cm wide, and 54 cm deep. These bedside chests function well in a traditional bedroom layout, positioned beside a bed to provide enclosed storage for nighttime essentials while keeping surfaces clear for a lamp or books. Their compact proportions make them suitable for rooms with limited floor space, complementing period interior schemes within an English country house setting.

FAQs

Traditional mahogany bedside chests are small-scale storage units characterized by vertical drawer stacks, solid timber or veneer construction, and classic proportions designed to complement bedroom settings.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany framework, flame mahogany face veneers, dovetail drawer joinery, brass turned knobs or escutcheons, and sturdy plinth or bracket bases.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, uneven oxidation on unexposed timber, original brass hardware with natural patina, and light wear consistent with historical age.

Pairing dark wood bedside chests with neutral linen bedding, contemporary brass lighting, or minimalist wall art creates a balanced contrast between traditional craft and modern design.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Keep pieces away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or bleaching.
