Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Victorian mahogany bedside chests follows a traditional English Country House design, constructed from warm brown mahogany with a polished timber finish displaying natural grain variations and a developed patina. Each chest incorporates four stacked drawers fitted with small turned wooden knobs, small brass keyhole escutcheons above each drawer, and a solid plinth base beneath. The timber surfaces show visible variations in tone across the top and drawer fronts from age and use. Each chest measures 76 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. These bedside tables function practically in a bedroom setting on either side of a bed for bedside storage.

FAQs

Victorian bedside chests typically feature solid dark wood construction, such as mahogany or walnut, with multiple functional drawers, plinth bases, and turned wooden knobs.

Craftsmen frequently utilised mahogany veneers over pine or oak frames, incorporating dovetail drawer joints and brass escutcheons for durability.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass keyhole escutcheons, natural shrinkage marks in the timber, and an authentic patina acquired over decades.

Pairing dark wood chests with neutral linen bedding, contemporary brass lighting, or minimalist artwork creates a balanced contrast between traditional joinery and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth, apply beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain twice a year, and keep the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent split panels.
