Pair or Art Deco Club Chairs

1920 - 1940
Description

These are a lovely pair of large Art Deco club chairs. I always love to find good pair of chairs that have a strong design and are of course comfy. These are both those things. The design is classic Art Deco with square backs but the added detail of the piped boarder exaggerates the shape nicely. Standing in ball feet with concealed casters.

Measurements Height 80cm Width 87cm Depth 85cm Depth of seat 50cm Height of seat 41cm

(On our website) If you would like these chairs upholstered please click yes in the upholstery drop down menu. These would require 12 metres of material (6m per chair). You can supply your own or please get in touch and we will send you the list of fabric companies we work with.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco club chairs are defined by streamlined geometric silhouettes, substantial proportions, and deep comfortable seating. They evolved from traditional club furniture, incorporating modernised curves and bold armrest profiles characteristic of the period.

Art Deco armchairs were constructed using solid hardwood frames such as beech or oak, filled with natural materials like horsehair, burlap, and cotton felt. Seat structures relied on hand-tied steel coil springs, supported by turned wooden feet often fitted with brass castors.

Authentic period pieces feature solid hardwood internal framing with mortise and tenon joinery, traditional coil spring webbing, and original turned feet or castors. Weight is also a key indicator, as period frames filled with traditional stuffing are considerably heavier than modern foam alternatives.

Art Deco armchairs can be positioned as a pair opposite a sofa or placed individually in a reading nook to create a focal point. Recovering period frames in contemporary wool, velvet, or linen bridges historical design with modern decor schemes.

Upholstery should be vacuumed gently using a soft brush attachment to remove dust without damaging fibers. Exposed wooden legs can be nourished with beeswax polish, and professional restoration is recommended for structural frame repairs or full reupholstery.
