A delightful and finely crafted small French bronze jewellery casket, dating to circa 1860, beautifully decorated throughout with finely cast figural panels.

The four sides depict charming rural scenes of adults and children working and playing within a picturesque garden, while the hinged lid features a contrasting scene of a man on horseback attempting to control an untamed horse in the open countryside.

The casket retains its original working lock and decorative bronze key. The interior is equally appealing, with a gilt rim and original red velvet lining, providing a wonderfully evocative setting for storing jewellery and other treasured possessions.

A charming and decorative object with considerable character, and an especially lovely gift for a gardening enthusiast or collector of fine antique boxes.
