This late Victorian armchair in the Howard & Sons style dates from around 1880 and exemplifies the English Country House aesthetic. The piece has a button back with deep tufting, low scroll arms, and a curved, sprung seat. It is upholstered in patterned dusty pink fabric with a salmon hue, complemented by turned wooden legs made of mahogany and mounted on brass castors. Minor scratches appear on the wooden legs, while the upholstery remains in good condition. The chair measures 93 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 90 cm deep. Appropriate for a sitting room, library, or drawing room, this armchair provides comfortable seating for everyday use. The traditional silhouette and muted pink textile suit a range of interior settings, from period townhouses to country properties. Placed near a fireplace or in a reading corner, the armchair functions as a practical seating option while maintaining nineteenth-century character. Regular placement in domestic environments allows the piece to serve as both functional furniture and a decorative element in a traditional or transitional interior scheme.

A Howard style button back armchair is a 19th-century upholstered easy chair inspired by the comfortable proportions of Howard & Sons, featuring deep seating, low padded arms, and tufted buttoning.

Victorian armchairs were built with solid hardwood frames, such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, padded with natural fibres like horsehair, and fitted with steel coil springs, fabric upholstery, and brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature period frame construction techniques, hand-turned timber legs, period brass castors, and traditional upholstery structure rather than modern synthetic foam.

A Victorian armchair acts as a striking accent piece in contemporary living spaces or bedrooms, offering classic character when contrasted with modern architectural lines and neutral colour palettes.

Vacuum fabric regularly using a soft upholstery attachment, nourish the exposed wooden legs with beeswax polish, and position the armchair away from direct sunlight to prevent textile fading.
