Late Elizabethan Box Chair.

Description

A wonderfully honest Late Elizabethan box chair in oak, restrained in decoration with only the moulded top rail and shapely arms to break the simplicity. The surface is dry and matt, as pieces found in ancient churches often are, an application of wax polish would no doubt make it gleam but I can’t bring myself to lose the sense of great age it’s dry state affords.

The seat is a very old replacement that has mellowed to the patina of the chair, there is a split to the back panel which I have left as it does not affect the usability of the chair.
