Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian elm kitchen chairs were widely produced in 19th-century Britain as practical, utilitarian seating for domestic kitchens and modest households. They typically feature turned legs, spindle backrests, and solid contoured seats.

These chairs were predominantly crafted using local hardwoods, with figured elm favoured for the seats due to its durability and resistance to splitting. Turned components like legs, stretchers, and back spindles were often made from beech or ash.

Authentic Victorian examples often exhibit hand-turned components, wedge-and-tenon joints visible under or through the seat, and natural wear patterns on footrests and seat contours. Age-related patina, subtle shrinkage marks, and historical structural joins also signal authenticity.

Pairing rustic wooden chairs with a clean-lined modern dining table creates a balanced contrast between contemporary and traditional design elements. They also suit farmhouse-style kitchens or open-plan dining spaces alongside neutral linens and natural stone textures.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry, soft cloth and nourish the finish periodically using high-quality beeswax paste. Avoid direct contact with radiator heat sources or excess moisture to prevent timber shrinkage and joint looseness.
