Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Neoclassical furniture, popularised during the late 18th and early 19th centuries under King Gustav III and King Karl Johan, incorporates clean lines, geometric proportions, and classical motifs derived from Greco-Roman antiquity. Pieces frequently feature dark mahogany or painted finishes, curved architectural frames, and detailed brass or ormolu mounts.

Chairs from this period were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as solid mahogany or birch, often paired with gilded brass or ormolu mounts. The upholstery traditionally utilised natural webbings, horsehair padding, and linen or silk fabrics secured with metal tacks.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-chased brass mounts with natural surface oxidisation, and irregular undersides showing hand-saw marks. Original frames will often feature historical upholstery tack holes and subtle variations in wood grain.

Pairing Neoclassical armchairs in a modern setting creates visual balance when positioned symmetrically alongside a clean-lined sofa or flanking a central fireplace. Their architectural silhouettes and rich wood tones contrast effectively against neutral walls and contemporary minimalist artwork.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly along the grain once or twice a year. Keep brass mounts clean using a non-abrasive dry cloth to protect historical patina, and position the chairs away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to prevent fabric fading and timber shrinkage.
