Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of English Regency side chairs is made from solid pine with original rush seats and features a beige finish decorated with dark blue hand-painted accents. The design incorporates turned front rails, spindle backs, backrest supports, and faux bamboo side stretchers. Both frames and rush seats remain in excellent original condition, exhibiting solid structural integrity. Measuring 83 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 41 cm deep with a comfortable 44 cm seat height, these chairs function well as dining seating in a contemporary home. They suit placement around a kitchen or dining table, adding traditional Regency character to an interior.

FAQs

Regency painted seating emerged in the early nineteenth century, inspired by classical Greco-Roman motifs, delicate proportions, and decorative surface finishes such as polychrome paint and faux graining.

These chairs were commonly crafted using light hardwoods such as beech or birch, which were painted and detailed by hand, often paired with woven cane or rush seating panels.

Authentic pieces exhibit uneven paint layer wear in high-contact areas, subtle oxidisation of pigments, traditional peg or mortise-and-tenon joinery, and evidence of hand-applied brushwork rather than modern spraying.

Pairing painted Regency chairs alongside contemporary dining tables or positioning them as standalone accent seating in hallways creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist design.

Dust gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoid applying solvents or abrasive polishes, and keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent paint flaking.
