Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian Chinoiserie furniture reflects an early 20th-century revival of European decorative arts inspired by East Asian aesthetics. These pieces typically feature dark lacquered or japanned surfaces decorated with hand-painted gilded scenes depicting landscapes, architecture, figures, and floral motifs.

Cabinets from this period often feature hardwood carcasses, such as mahogany, finished with layers of black or red lacquer. Decorative details incorporate gilding, gold leaf, and painted enamels, while display sections feature clear glass panels, fabric-lined interiors, and brass hardware.

Authentic Edwardian pieces display detailed hand-painted scenes with subtle surface texture, natural age craquelure in the varnish, and period joinery such as hand-cut dovetails. Look for cast brass fittings, period glass, and carved leg supports such as cabriole legs with ball-and-claw feet.

A black lacquered Chinoiserie cabinet serves as a focal accent piece when positioned against neutral walls alongside streamlined contemporary furniture. The gilded detailing provides warm metallic contrast, making it suitable for dining rooms, living spaces, or wide hallways.

Keep lacquered surfaces away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking and fading. Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, polish, or water which can degrade delicate gilding and lacquer layers.
