Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Arts and Crafts dressing table mirror dates from 1930 and follows an English Country House aesthetic. Constructed from dark brown oak and clear glass, the piece stands on shaped bracket feet with carved decoration at the base, and incorporates tilting pivot arms secured with metal hardware on each side. The rectangular frame holds a wide glass plate, topped by a carved ribbon motif running horizontally along the upper wooden border, while the vertical uprights display further carved detailing. It measures 66 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 25.5 cm deep overall. In a modern interior, this dressing table mirror works well placed on top of a sideboard or chest of drawers in a bedroom, hallway, or dressing room. The adjustable swing mechanism allows the glass to be tilted to various angles for daily use. The solid timber construction and traditional carved accents suit period properties and rustic decorative schemes alike.

FAQs

A toilet mirror, also known as a vanity or dressing table mirror, is a free-standing mirror designed to sit atop a chest of drawers or dressing table. Originating in the late seventeenth century, these mirrors feature an adjustable swivelling frame mounted between two upright supports.

Historical toilet mirrors were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The frames feature mortise and tenon joinery, with metal or wooden pivot screws allowing the glass mirror plate to tilt.

Authentic examples display hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-cut mortise joints, and natural age-related patination across the wood surface. The reverse side often shows original wooden backboards fastened with early slot-head screws.

Position the mirror on a bedroom sideboard, dressing unit, or hallway console table to add functional reflection and visual height. Combining dark oak timber with contemporary ceramics or neutral linen creates a balanced contrast of textures.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain annually. Clean the glass carefully using a mild solution on a microfibre cloth, avoiding direct contact between liquid cleaners and the timber border.
