A toilet mirror, also known as a vanity or dressing table mirror, is a free-standing mirror designed to sit atop a chest of drawers or dressing table. Originating in the late seventeenth century, these mirrors feature an adjustable swivelling frame mounted between two upright supports.

Historical toilet mirrors were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The frames feature mortise and tenon joinery, with metal or wooden pivot screws allowing the glass mirror plate to tilt.

Authentic examples display hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-cut mortise joints, and natural age-related patination across the wood surface. The reverse side often shows original wooden backboards fastened with early slot-head screws.
