Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian parquetry keepsake box is a nineteenth-century decorative wooden storage vessel crafted using geometric wood mosaic techniques known as parquetry. Popular during the Victorian era, these boxes were produced to store personal mementos, jewellery, and correspondence.

These boxes were predominantly constructed using native and imported hardwoods, with burr walnut, mahogany, and rosewood being favoured choices. Parquetry bands were assembled from contrasting wood veneers, while brass was standard for internal hinges, lock mechanisms, and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature thin, hand-cut wood veneers, dovetail joints along the box frame, and natural surface wear consistent with age. Original locks often bear period manufacturer stamps, and the interior wood typically displays slight shrinkage or oxidisation over time.

A small wooden box functions as a refined accent on a sideboard, coffee table, or bedside nightstand. It serves both aesthetic and practical purposes by adding warm wood tones to modern schemes while concealing everyday clutter such as keys or trinkets.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the box away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting, drying, or wood bleaching.
