Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Gilded mirrors have been used since the medieval and Renaissance periods, gaining prominence in royal European courts as symbols of wealth and luxury due to the high cost of both mercury silvering and gold leaf application.

Traditional gilded mirrors are typically constructed using a carved wood base, often gessoed and layered with genuine gold leaf applied over a bole priming coat.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved wooden frames, traditional gesso application, and foxing or oxidisation within the glass plate, contrasting with uniform modern resin or plastic moulds.

Positioning a large gilded mirror opposite a window maximises natural light and creates a focal point, pairing effectively with both minimalist modern furnishings and traditional decors.

Gilded surfaces require dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and chemical cleaning agents to protect the delicate gold leaf.
