This is a rare and most unusual design, with shortened armrests to facilitate the playing of an instrument. It is strong and well-constructed of an unusual type of mahogany, which is more of the colour associated with walnut. The square slightly outward-tapering back has a central cane panel and is flanked by short arms with turned spindles and turned column supports, over a circular seat with a cane panel (in need of restoration), and raised on four outward-tapering legs united by cross-stretchers. Circa 1870
