Button back seating gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, particularly as parlour and nursing chairs designed for comfort and elegance in formal reception rooms.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a hardwood frame, traditionally constructed from mahogany or walnut, with hand-tied coil springs, horsehair stuffing, and deep button tufting securing the upholstery.

Key indicators of authenticity include hand-carved wooden components, traditional joinery methods, handmade upholstery tacks, and wear patterns consistent with age on the frame and castors.

This piece can serve as a striking accent seat in a living room or bedroom, contrasting effectively against minimalist contemporary decor to add texture, historic character, and a pop of pattern.

Preservation requires keeping the chair out of direct sunlight to prevent textile fading, gently vacuuming the fabric with a soft brush attachment, and periodically feeding the exposed wooden frame with appropriate furniture wax.
