Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian armchair follows the classic Howard style, presenting a traditional English Country House design intended as a substantial reupholstering project. The piece is upholstered in an off-white cream calico cotton fabric that shows visible marks, stains, and general wear across the seat and arms. It features a deep seat, a high padded back, and low scrolled padded arms with gathered fabric detail at the front ends, along with a paper price label attached by a string to the cushion. The chair measures 90 cm in height, 85 cm in width, and 85 cm in depth. A furniture item of this scale suits a living room, library, or study, providing a comfortable seating option once restored.

FAQs

Originated in the 19th century by maker Howard & Sons, this design is characterised by a deep seat, low scrolled arms, and a padded back engineered for comfort.

Traditional construction incorporates a solid hardwood frame, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural hair or feather stuffing, and a calico base lining.

Original pieces frequently feature maker stamps on the rear legs, stamped brass castors, and branded ticking fabric beneath outer coverings.

Re-upholstering the chair in neutral linen or textured wool allows its classic country house profile to integrate with contemporary schemes.

Regular vacuuming using a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation, while avoiding direct sunlight protects the fabric from fading.
