Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William and Mary style emerged in late 17th-century England, characterised by Dutch and French baroque influences, tall backrests, and intricate wood carving. Wing armchairs from this era were designed to protect the sitter from cold draughts and retain heat from nearby hearths.

These armchairs typically feature carved walnut, oak, or beech frames paired with elaborate woven textiles such as damask, velvet, or needlepoint tapestry. The internal structure relies on traditional hardwood joinery, webbed bases, and natural upholstery fillings.

Key identification features include high arched backrests, winged side panels, turned or carved legs, and elaborate scrolled or serpentine stretchers connecting the leg base. Traditional hand-chiseled joinery is visible on the exposed timber elements.

A high-backed wing armchair serves as a focal accent piece when positioned in a reading corner, bedroom alcove, or fireside arrangement. Pairing the chair with neutral surrounding walls and clean-lined contemporary tables balances its detailed carving and patterned fabric.

Gently vacuum the upholstery fabric using a soft brush attachment to prevent dust build-up without disturbing the weave. Keep the piece positioned away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and apply natural beeswax polish to the exposed timber frame.
